Byrd Hill

11/16/25 – This one has been in the ground for about 6 months now and is doing great. I really love the huge leaves on this one and it’s already got a nice form to it.

You can see the Brother James manzanita behind it and the John Dourley just in front of it. Looking forward to seeing how this looks in a few years time.

7/12/25 – Looking good again, I was worried with all the leaf drop but it appears to have just been last years leaves dropping. I’m still watering it every couple weeks when the temps are cooler. If it starts getting really hot I might back off completely with the water. I’ve also been hosing it off on some of the hotter days, just a quick spray of the leaves to cool the plant.

5/17/25 – I’m trying water this before it gets too hot but it’s a delicate balance with the summer heat and this variety not being super garden tolerant. I’m seeing all of last years leaves dropping and getting nervous, so I’m going to stop watering for a month or so.

5/1/25 – Planted it into the ground where I have a couple others. It’s paired with John Dourley and Brother James manzanitas. The bright green leaves from the Byrd Hill contrast nicely with the reds from all of the others.

1/31/25 – Purchased from Linda Vista Natives Currently in a 2 gallon pot. I’m going to move it to a 5 gallon pot and grow it out some more before I decided where it will go. I have a couple of huge pots I bought (24″) that I might put it into later on.
