9/28/25 – Dark Star is doing amazing. I cleared out some more space for more CA natives by thinning out the MASSIVE aloe patch and taking down the butterfly bush. I also pruned the Tree Mallow that was shading part of the Dark Star. The whole are looks so much better now. Its hard to see but way back in the corner, behind that bush poppy is a Ceanothus Snow Flurry, it should fill in this space nicely.

7/6/25 – The Dark Star should be peaking over the fence in a couple of weeks, it’s really taken off in the last year!

5/3/25 – Holly in her favorite spot. I’ve added several more CA Natives with the Darkstar. Mr’s Beard sage, Coyote Bush, Celestial Blue Sage,Bandagii Sage, Woolly Bluecurls, Louis Edmunds Manzanita.

3/1/25 – Picked up a second Dark Star to plant along the back fence

2/13/25 – Lots of blooms popping in the last week

2/8/25 – Honey Bee working the Dark Star Ceanothus. He’s got a big sack of pollen on his legs as he works the flowers

1/24/25 – Buds turning purple against the dark green leaves

1/24/25 – Honey Bee found some of the first flowers. They go bonkers over this flower, must be really good.

1/11/25 – Flower buds seem to be forming a little earlier this year with the warm weather and lack of rain. Last year I did not see flower buds until late Feb.

12/29/24 – Looking very happy and putting on some decent growth

10/27/24 – Starting to get cooler so I watered it deeply a couple times in the last month

Dark Star 6/15/24. Some yellowing on older leaves, but nothing to be concerned about, the new growth looks lush and green. Only watered 2 or 3 times this year. I saw this same issue with dropping some of the older leaves last year while it was in it’s pot and waiting for cooler weather before planting.

2/4/24 – Pictured shortly after planting, not sure of exact date.

5/14/25 – When I planted this I was not sure if it was a good spot but it appears to like where it’s at. I’ve been very careful not to water in the summer. When I did have to water, it was only on the coolest days. I think that it should established at this point, so I may stop watering it all together soon.
