1/25/25 – Planted a new red buckwheat in the front yard, right in front of my rose bush. I replaced some grass that did not benefit any wildlife. I think the buckwheat will pair nice with the rose. It’s supposed to stay fairly small but my other plant exploded to several feet wide. I’ll have to prune if it starts going wild.
1/11/25 – Trimmed the Buckwheat back to the ground last month and it’s already rebounded. I’m going to try and prune it back this year if it gets floppy like last year.
12/15/24 – Trimmed back to the ground
3/4/24 This tiny little plant EXPLODED in just 3 months time and bloomed through November
6/26/24
7/10/24 – This is NOT what I was expecting, I think it’s actually Seacliff Buckwheat!
7/22/24 – seems to be getting “redder” as it goes along
10/12/24 Still flowering
10/24/24 Still flowering
11/16/24 and it’s still flowering. All of those seeds ended up producing a ton of seedlings. I still have to dig some of them out of the DG…..there are hundreds of sprouts from that single plant.
Replacement for my Red Buckwheat (which ended up pink)
Next to my Coastal Buckwheat for comparison
