Centennial Ceanothus

This is an amazing ground cover, but be warned, it needs some protection from the full sun. I’ve killed 2 of them by planting in full sun, even one that had seemed to be well established. However, the one’s that I planted on a berm with some afternoon shade are doing very well and explode with color in the fall.

4/3/25 – Peak flower power

3/31/25 – Centennial paired with parrot’s beak (Lotus berthelotii)

3/29/25 – Here you can see the Centennial paired with a Concha seedling known as ‘Conchita’

Planted (4) of these in different locations. It’s clear that these prefer some shade to do well. The ones that I have in full sun do not seem to be doing as well as the ones that get some shade during the day!

Same plant as above, about 9 months later

11/20/25 – This plant must be 8′ across in just a couple of years, this is just one side of it. I believe I can get complete coverage of the berm from these (3) plants. I’ve already started removing one of the parrot’s beak plants that were non native. I will remove the other one as this fills out and as the Green Supreme manzanita I planted starts to get bigger.

Second one planted on the berm at the same time as the one above

3rd one planted on side of the house, same time as others

Planted 9/9/24 Replacement from one that died in a different spot

11/30/25 – This one is starting to get it’s legs and is spreading a bit. I will remove the cat’s mint once this one starts to get bigger.

1/4/25 – Started flowering today
